Nationals 2019

After a solid build up over the season with the bands competing at various events around the region they made the long trek down to the NZ National Champs in Dunedin.

Both bands performed strongly, the highlight was the No1 band being announced the champion drum corps following a clean sweep of firsts in drumming – a wonderful result and testament to the hard work Gary Potter and the corps have been putting in. The No1 band finished 3 rd overall in a very tight Grade 1 contest, which included 2 nd place in the medley.

The No2 band also had solid runs in Grade 3 events taking out 2 nd place in both the medley and MSR events and finishing 2 nd overall, an excellent result.

It was another thoroughly enjoyable NZ season which sees the band organisation in excellent shape and with a strong future ahead. Both bands would like to thank our wonderful friends, families and supporters for their unflinching support. You’re all a very important part of the TU culture and we couldn’t do it without you.

The bands are now taking some time off to recharge, consider new music, do some fundraising and running a recruitment initiative to build our learners programs. If you’re interested in joining our friendly pipe band family please contact us.

With our AGM having recently taken place we have an enthusiastic executive in place, we are looking forward to the next season and the Nationals in Invercargill. Watch out for some fun and interesting fundraising events coming up.

We would also like to extend a huge thank you to Property Brokers, the Lion Foundation, Mainland
Foundation and Pub Charity for their generous support this year.
